Guest email and confirmation
A guest can save without an account. Choose when the app asks for an email, then test confirmation and unsubscribe behaviour separately from saving an item.
Choose when guests see the email form
| Ask guests for email | What happens | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| When subscribing to an alert | The guest can save first; the email is requested when they use Notify me. | You want the request tied to a specific notification action. This is the default. |
| When saving an item | Saving can prompt a guest who has no known address to enter one. | You want to collect an address earlier in the wishlist journey. |
- 1
Set the timing
Open Alerts → Guest email, choose Ask guests for email, and save. Refresh the storefront because its loaded configuration can still reflect the previous choice.
- 2
Test with a guest who has no address
Use a fresh browser profile or private window for a disposable test, then save a product. A browser already associated with an email can skip the prompt and give the false impression that the setting does nothing.
- 3
Complete a notification request
Select a sold-out variant and use Notify me. Enter your address when asked. Confirm the shopper receives the expected on-screen response before changing stock.
Require double opt-in
Enable Require double opt-in (confirmation email before sending alerts) if you want an explicit confirmation step. It starts off. When enabled, normal alert delivery checks require a confirmed address; merely seeing an email on the Shoppers tab is not proof of confirmation.
- 1
Open the confirmation email
After entering the test address, look in the inbox and spam folder. Follow the confirmation link before running the restock.
- 2
Use the current address
If the supplied address was changed, use the confirmation link for the current address. A link tied to an old address should not be used as proof that the new one was confirmed.
- 3
Run the alert test
Restock the subscribed variant after confirmation and inspect Alert log. If mail still does not arrive, check the switch, exact variant and delivery route rather than repeating the email form.
Guest list and customer account
The guest's saved list is associated with a browser token. When the app can identify a subsequent Shopify customer login, it can merge guest items into that account and deduplicate matching product/variant saves. Signing into Shopify admin is not the same as signing into the storefront as a customer.
Stop emails versus remove an item
Use the email unsubscribe link to stop alerts
Removing an item from the wishlist removes that saved item. It is not the same operation as unsubscribing from all wishlist alert mail. The email unsubscribe link stops future normal alert sends and cancels waiting subscriptions.
A shopper can subscribe again from a product page. For a missing guest list, check the original browser and customer login before clearing any more site data.
