A guest wishlist is missing
Guest lists depend on the browser identity used to save them. Check that identity before treating an empty list as a deleted list.
Understand what identifies the list
A guest can save without a customer login. The browser keeps a guest identifier that lets the app retrieve that list. Opening the same product on another device, another browser or a new private session can create a different guest list.
Entering an email for alerts does not turn the page address into a portable private-list link. The Share button shares the wishlist page URL; each person opening it sees their own list.
Check in this order
- 1
Return to the original browser
Use the device, browser profile and storefront where the products were saved. If the original visit was private browsing, closing that session may have removed its stored identity.
- 2
Check browser data changes
Consider whether cookies or site data were cleared, a privacy tool removed storage, or the browser profile was reset. The app cannot infer the original anonymous identity from a new browser session.
- 3
Check customer login
Sign in to the same customer account used previously, then reopen the wishlist. When the app recognizes a signed-in customer, it can merge that browser's guest saves into the customer list. Duplicate product-and-variant pairs are combined.
An email typed into an alert form is not the same step as signing in to a Shopify customer account.
- 4
Separate an empty list from a rendering problem
Save one known product in the current browser and open the wishlist again. If it appears, the display works for the current identity. If the custom page shows only a heading or fails to render, check the app embed and the Wishlist page block.
- 5
Check whether the item was removed
A heart toggles the saved state. Clicking an already saved heart can remove the item from the current list. Inspect other saved products to see whether only one item or the whole list is affected.
Recovery is not guaranteed
If the original guest browser identity has been lost and the list was never associated with a recognized customer, there is no documented self-service restore action. Contact support with the store, approximate save time and known products; do not promise a shopper that entering their email will recover the list.
Wishlist removal and alert subscriptions
Removing an item from a wishlist is a separate action from unsubscribing from alert email. Use the unsubscribe link in an email when the intention is to stop messages. Do not use an empty wishlist alone as proof that all subscriptions have been cancelled.
Verify future saves
- Save a product, refresh the page and confirm that it remains in the same browser.
- If customer login is part of your store's flow, sign in and check that the saved item is present.
- Test a second device while signed in before describing cross-device behaviour to shoppers.
